Teleclasses: Etiquette and Agreements

Aspire Life Coaching Community Coach Calls and Teleclasses are inspiring, supportive and interactive. Read the information below to learn more about Teleclasses. To help ensure everyone gets the most each call please review the etiquette guidelines and agreements prior to participating in each call.

What is a Teleclass?

  • Teleclasses are live workshops taught via telephone instead of in a classroom.
  • Teleclasses use conference bridgelines that enable many people to call into one telephone number at the same time.
  • They offer the same great information and insights as in person workshops, only students attend from the convenience of their home, office, of wherever there is a telephone.
  • Teleclasses are interactive, providing opportunities for students to ask questions and share experiences.
  • Students achieve a sense of community, safety and intimacy.
  • Students pay normal long distance charges incurred from the telephone call, in addition to the teleclass fee (when applicable).
  • After you register for a teleclass you will receive an email with the call in number. When it’s time for class, simply dial the number and follow the voice prompts to be connected to your teleclass.
  • If the teleclass includes a downloadable workbook, you will be given instructions to complete the download. We recommend printing and organizing your workbook prior to class.

Advantages of a Teleclass:

  • Teleclasses are convenient and just as effective as in person workshops.
  • They require no travel time; no travel costs.
  • There are no parking concerns.
  • Teleclasses have no dress codes!
  • You can take notes on your computer during the class.
  • Teleclasses provide a rich learning environment with women across the country.
  • Teleclass students are connected to a diverse group of people with a common interest or concern.
  • Students can choose their level of participation. It is easy to share and be heard...to ask questions and to get feedback. And, it’s easy to simply listen in.

What You Need to Participate

  • A telephone, the dial in telephone number and bridgeline (provided in your confirmation email).
  • Have paper and a pencil or pen available for note-taking.
  • You will be notified via email if anything else is required for a particular Community Coach Call or Teleclass.

Time Zone

Unless otherwise stated, the standard time zone for Community Coach Calls and Teleclasses in the United States is Pacific Standard Time (PST) or Pacific Daylight Time (PDT).

Call In Time

Call the telephone number provided in your confirmation email precisely at the top of the hour or a few minutes after. The start time for a class is generally 2 minutes after the hour.

Joining the Call

  • After dialing the telephone number and entering the bridgeline, you'll be asked to record your name. To remain anonymous, use an alias.
  • When you are first connected to the call, participants will hear a beep and your recorded name. The leader will check against the registration list to see that all participants are registered and all registrants are present.

Arriving Late

If you're late for the teleclass, no problem; just dial in and be silent until you catch on to what's being discussed. The leader may or may not formally welcome you but probably won't so as to not disturb the flow of the call. That doesn't mean you're not welcome!

Leaving Early

If you must leave the class early, please notify the leader. Simply hanging up is not courteous, and is equivalent to walking out of the class. The other Coach Call or Teleclass participants will hear a brief dial tone that is annoying to hear during the class.

Leaving the Call

When the class is over, feel free to say goodbye to everyone and just hang up. Please don't stay on the line after the call is over as the telephone system needs to reset itself for the next call.

Line Noise, Background Noise and Other Distractions

  • Common line noises include the beeps heard when someone joins the call and the brief dial tone heard when someone leaves the call. Other line noises include echoes and static. If the line noise is too distracting and the problem can't be corrected, the leader may ask participants to mute their line or hang up and call back in.
  • Press 4 * on your telephone keypad to Mute/Unmute your line. (You will be unable to unmute your line when the lead has All-Mute activated.)

Call-waiting

  • Call waiting tones are distracting. Please disable call waiting on your telephone prior to calling in.
  • Dial * 70 on your telephone keypad to disable call waiting. After you hang up, your call-waiting feature automatically resumes.

Sharing, Commenting and Cross Talk

  • The leader will usually All-Mute the Community Coach Call or Teleclass. Please Virtually Raise Your Hand when you want to share, comment or ask questions.
  • Susan will announce you and unmute your line so you may speak.
  • Press 5 * on your telephone keypad to Virtually Raise/Unraise Your Hand.
  • Please keep your comments constructive and positive and as short as possible (to allow others to be included). Don't say things like, "I disagree with that…," or "I take exception to that…," or "That's wrong…," even if true! Just say what you want to say and if you want to relate it to another caller's comment, make it constructive and positive!
