This Month's Coaching Tip
Susan meets many new people through out the week and is often asked how she remembers so many names! This month, Susan reveals her secret! Repetition helps us memorize and I use this concept in two ways. When I first meet someone, I always repeat their name back to them out load. Then in my mind, I stutter on the first letter or sound of their name. For example, for the name Karin, I will stutter K-K-Karin. For Shelly, I will stutter Sh-Sh-Shelly. Usually, if I can remember the first sound of their name, the rest will follow. When I do forget a name, I simply own it. Many people are challenged with remembering names and I have never come across anyone who was insulted when I forgot theirs.
